Mini-review:
An almost-perfect blend of serious and comedic elements pulls this movie up a notch above the regular violence-filled fare of gangster themed Tamil movies. With a running time of just a wee bit over 2 hours, the movie speeds by with a snappy first half and a second half after the interval which ballparks straight into one laugh out moment to the next in a series of rib-tickling scenarios all the way till the end.
For a gangster themed movie, there’s a chockful of comedy in it and one-liners worthy of applause. Both Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi ace their roles to a T and so do the whole cavalcade of supporting actors. These also include actors who were predominately cast as the stereotypical gangsters and bad guys before in films of yesteryear. Seeing them absolutely hamming it up in their roles on their return to the big screen brings the roof down with peals of laughter! The music and songs by Anirudh totally nail the various mood moments of the movie without missing a beat. The alternate version of the main theme song of the movie which plays near one the scenes leading up to the climax is the cherry on the cake for us. Worth a watch!
